Norvasc is used to treat high blood pressure in patients with heart failure and left ventricular failure (such as NYHA class II or III). Lowering blood pressure helps to reduce the risk of sudden cardiac death in patients with heart failure. Lowering blood pressure in these patients can be harmful. Lowering blood pressure in patients with unstable angina or coronary artery disease can also reduce the risk of hospitalization for angina or coronary artery disease. Lowering blood pressure in these patients can also increase the risk of developing heart attacks, stroke, and blood clots. Lowering blood pressure in these patients can also lower the risk of developing a heart attack, stroke, or blood clot. Norvasc is a potassium-sparing diuretic that treats not only high blood pressure but also edema (swelling) associated with heart failure and edema associated with cardiac insufficiency (such as heart failure, severe angina, severe left ventricular failure, heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, or right ventricular failure with pulmonary edema). Norvasc is an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It prevents the action of a certain hormone (ACE) which makes your blood vessels constrict and decreases the amount of angiotensin aldosterone (A1, A2, A3, A4) in your body. Lowering blood pressure in these patients can also help to reduce the risk of a heart attack, stroke, and blood clot.
